What does the life of a yoga teacher in Manning, Perth look like? When I was asked this question, my mind took a journey through this beautiful neighbourhood and the many layers of my daily routine. How do I present the depth and vibrancy of this wonderful suburb and community?
At 6am I’m teaching a Hatha Flow class, the clients representing the varied community of Manning and surrounds; parents, students, teachers, people from all backgrounds and experiences. This diversity has always drawn me teaching and gives flexibility to my approach with a broad range of students. I work to understand their collective energy and ensure I organically address their needs. I love this aspect of teaching, and with the recent launch of our New Manning Studio with Reformer, Yoga and Barre at the Centre of the Manning Hub precinct I’m reminded of this in my teaching journey.
While my yoga practice is about flowing through movement, incorporating strength and mobility, I also offer Asana, Breathwork and Relaxation at our Manning Yoga Studio – ensuring each student leaves feeling centered and ready for their day. After wishing my students a beautiful day, I head home and return with my daughter in tow, ready for a brilliant day at Tall Tree Early Learning – which conveniently is located opposite our Studio on Bradshaw Crescent. It’s wonderful to have such a quality creche on the doorstop of our Yoga, Barre and Pilates Studio in the Manning Community Centre. The Universe is looking after me here!
After leaving my bouncy toddler with the team at Tall Tree, I swing into Henry M’s Cafe for a quick caffeine pick-me-up, or a warm tea when I’m taking a caffeine break! These guys really know their coffee and the atmosphere in here is always so good! Followed by the Manning Library to return some children’s books, and chat to the wonderful staff who keep this Community Centre vibrant. There are frequent competitions and activities through the Manning Laneway, always supported or organised by these wonderful staff. I take advantage of the quiet and serene space to write out some class programmes and niggle at the sequencing for my upcoming classes.
As I leave the library, I pop my head into Mysa Studio Manning (Barre, Yoga and Pilates near me) as the last classes of the morning are finishing up, to say “hi” and to ensure everything ran smoothly that morning. I end up staying for a while to check some emails and catch up on some bits and pieces for the studio. My role as Studio Support is a very well rounded and wholesome role as I have the chance to teach and support our students in all aspects of their connection and relationship with the Manning Pilates Studio.
The Manning Laneway where our Manning Yoga Studio is located, lends itself well to what we are all about at the studio – local, homely, vibrant, community minded, inclusive, social, and it allows us to escape the traffic of Manning Rd. There’s greenery both in our studios and at the James Miller Oval, not far from us.
Manning is such a wonderful location with close connections to the city, freeway, train or bus, with some really great surrounding suburbs including Waterford, Karawara, Como, South Perth, Salter Point. With so many beautiful suburbs around, we feel grateful to be able to offer affordable Yoga, Barre and Pilates classes in this area.
After some time, all of that brain power has been consumed, the early start, not to mention the mid morning coffee has meant that the call to eat lunch has come sooner than usual. I stop at Banh Mee in the Welwyn Avenue Shopping Centre for a fresh, yummy, local lunch. Once the food has reached my stomach I decide to take a walk to the James Miller Oval to walk for some fresh air and gentle movement to allow the food to settle in my stomach. A 10 min walk works wonders – 100 steps is what is recommended but who’s counting, haha!
Before I shift my attention back to my mum role once more, I head back to the studio and am lucky to be able to squeeze in the best yoga class in Manning for myself to replenish, shift any unnecessary mental and physical tension from my day, reconnect and shift my brain back into mum mode, ready to switch off for the rest of the evening.
