At Mysa Studio Manning, our main ethos is to support an inclusive community, meeting you where you’re at in your movement journey without judgement or criticism. We welcome beginners, pros and people who have never stepped foot into a Studio before. We recognise how challenging it can be to enter a new environment and we do our best to make it an easy first step!
Our classes are designed to offer varying levels and pace to ensure we can meet you where you are that day. Our quality instructors are trained in various modalities and styles and have experience with varying levels of client experience in one class and one space. With this experience comes the ability to work with the class as a whole as well as guide the individual as needed. We love to offer modifications and assistance and more often than not we allow the student to adjust themselves in a pose through specific cues so that they feel empowered and can select their desired level. We recognise each day you will have a little more or less to give and it’s your decision in your body where you are today. This is what makes what we offer here at Mysa Studio exceptional. We understand that every single one of us is designed and functions individually, we experience things differently and so you won’t find us taking a one size fits all approach.
Our Yoga classes are not only for beginners but are also injury/pregnancy/post-partum friendly.
We have props on hand to help you to customise each class as you progress – blocks, bolsters, blankets, straps, all the equipment we may use in our Manning pilates classes we may also bring into our yoga space. We will provide all equipment you’ll need, you just need to:
- Wear comfortable clothing you can move in – layers can be helpful as you may find yourself chilly at the start or end of class but hot throughout the main work
- Bring water and perhaps a towel for sweat or support
If it’s your very first time practicing Yoga, you may be asking the body to move in ways that it is not used to. We encourage you to go at a steady and gradual place and take as much rest and pauses as needed in the beginning. The magic comes in the acceptance of where you are in that moment which is key – be ok to sit and watch, use props, stop for an extra breath, feel challenged, etc.
Expect to be worked from head to toe, mind for focus and discipline, body for strength, breath as a bridge between these two. Expect to feel everything from calm, rest, energised and challenged or overwhelmed (to listen to and follow instruction an hour can be overwhelming in itself) all in the space of a 55 minute class. This is a part of the experience and we are always on hand after class for discussion on anything that you noticed or that came up for you. Especially as a beginner, this is what often makes your first class daunting and can sometimes put you off, so it is important to chat to your instructor after the first few sessions about your experience. We encourage you to approach all practices with an open mind and zero expectations.
We can wait to see you join us on the mat and encourage you to head to our other blogposts listed below for more on what we are all about!
